Nelson Mandela was in prison for 27 years and never saw the sun.
Then after Nelson Mandela became the president of the country. One day he said to some of his colleagues - let's see the city today, after spending a long time in the prison life inside the four walls, it is not necessary to see with your own eyes how the city has become.
Nelson Mandela walked the streets of the city with colleagues. After feeling very hungry, Mandela said that if there is a restaurant in front, he will eat there. Colleagues are surprised!
After understanding the situation, Mandela said, there is nothing surprising. I'm hungry, I'll eat. Since I didn't die from the strange prison food, I won't die so easily.
Everyone is sitting at the table to eat. An elderly gentleman is sitting not far away. Mandela calls the hotel waiter and says, bring a chair and place it next to me and tell the gentleman to sit next to me and eat with us. Then, the gentleman came and sat beside them.
Everyone is talking while eating but the gentleman can't eat anything. His hands and feet are shaking. Food falling from spoon to plate.
One of Mandela's colleagues said to the gentleman - you look sick. The man remained silent, saying nothing. Then Mandela fed him with his own hands and told the waiter - we will pay his food bill too.
After the meal, everyone prepared to leave. But, everyone watched in amazement – the gentle man was unable to stand or rise well and the tremors in his body were slowly increasing.
Mandela helped the man to his feet on his hands and told a colleague to get him to the door. Another person said - Can he reach home with such a sick body?
At this time, Mandela began to say - he is sick or healthy. He was the guard of the cell in which I was confined in the jail. I was very thirsty after being severely beaten. When I drank water out of thirst, he would make me urinate on my body and face.
Even though I am the most powerful person in the country today, I have been fed by my side. So he shuddered at the memory of the ill-used days of yore.
Mandela also said, it is against my ideals to punish the powerless by becoming powerful. It is not part of my morals in life. So instead of being punished, he got love.
He urinated on my body and face. But, I put food in his mouth. I am your president as well as his president. Therefore, it is my moral duty to respect every citizen.
